On Monday the 12th May, the Diocese of Killaloe published the audit report from the National Board for Safeguarding Children in the Catholic Church in Ireland. The audit of safeguarding practices in the diocese took place in November 2013.
Bishop O’Reilly stated that “the Board conducted a comprehensive audit of safeguarding practice in the diocese and have made four recommendations”. On behalf of the diocese, Bishop O’Reilly accepted these recommendations and thanked the Board for their work.
On behalf of the Diocese of Killaloe he extended heartfelt apologies to all those who suffered abuse at the hands of a small number of priests of the diocese and stated: “I would like to assure parents and children that the diocese is committed to ensuring that best practices are in place and operational at all times to safeguard children now and in the future.”
