Willie Walsh was ordained the Bishop of Killaloe on 2 October 1994. A native of Roscrea, Co. Tipperary he studied for the priesthood at St. Patrick’s College Maynooth and the Irish College in Rome where he was ordained in 1959.
On his return to Ireland he taught for a year in Galway before joining the staff at St. Flannans in Ennis, where he had attended previously as a student.
In 1988 he was appointed curate at Ennis cathedral and became administrator in 1990. During his career he has been affiliated on a pastoral level with ACCORD and has worked with marriage tribunals at diocesan, regional and national levels. His life-long interest in sport is illustrated in his commitment to coaching hurling teams at college, club and county grades.
