The Mass:

Entrance into Mass:

There are no special people or no special place in the Church to celebrate Eucharist. There is no audience at Eucharist. We all come together as God’s people to celebrate. We gather from busy lives and we need time to get into the spirit of the Mass. That’s what the entrance rites are all about. And so we have people who make us feel welcome, who sometimes help find a seat. Most times we begin Eucharist with a hymn to help us get into the mood of the liturgy. We, the Body of Christ, are there to participate fully.

Liturgy of the Word:

Our Sunday Eucharist can be divided into 4 main parts: - (1) Gathering Rites (2) Story -Telling (3) Meal Sharing and (4) Commissioning. We've looked at the significance of the Gathering Rites. Today, we will focus on the Liturgy of the Word. We believe that God speaks to us in the here and now, whenever the Word is proclaimed to us. It is God's living Word to me and for me.

The Presentation of the Gifts:

Today we focus on the significance of the Presentation of the Gifts (sometimes referred to as the Offertory of the Mass). We present the bread and wine, which will be changed into the Body and Blood of Christ. As the bread and wine changes, our prayer is that we too may become changed into the Body of Christ. As bread is broken and shared, our prayer is that we too may become broken in the service of others. In the Eucharist (which we will receive later in the Mass) we ‘become what we eat’, and that is Jesus offering himself for all people.

The Eucharistic Prayer:

Today we focus on the Eucharistic Prayer. This prayer is at the heart of the mass. The Eucharistic Prayer is led by the celebrant and comes after the Presentation of the Gifts. The Celebrant invites the congregation to lift up their hearts and give praise and thanks to God. The first part of the prayer is called the Preface and it concludes with the congregation joining in the singing/reciting of Holy, Holy. The altar servers ring the bell 3 times during the Eucharistic Prayer. This is to draw attention that we are now at a sacred, special time.
