The time after Easter (and between Christmas time and Lent) is called ‘ordinary time’ but for the Christian, no time is merely ordinary. The Spirit of Pentecost, poured out on the church, has filled the whole world with the glory of the risen Christ. The church lives his mysteries in her Sunday celebration of the Eucharist, in which Easter and Pentecost are manifested anew. The vestment is green to signify the new life welling up in the world through the action of God’s Holy Spirit.
Prayer:
God of heaven and earth,
Through Jesus you have made know to us the name of Father,
The Word who was made flesh,
And the person of the Holy Spirit.
May you be blessed for the opening to us
The secret of your inmost life,
And for inviting us to enter it
In the glory where you reign
For ever and ever. |
