New Process for IEC2012 Statio Orbis Tickets: Effective immediately we can no longer get Statio Orbis tickets in the usual way we have been doing up to now. People will now be able to get these tickets through their local Centra Store from May 21st onwards. You go into Centra. Request a Statio Orbis ticket for the closing ceremony, they will book it for you online in their shop and you pay them for it. It will cost €10 plus booking fee of whatever Centra charges for this service. There are about 30,000 of these tickets available through Centra. These tickets are the upper stadium seats of Croke Park, and are non-negotiable, i.e.: you cannot change your ticket for another seat somewhere lower down in Croke Park.

How do we make sense of Ascension Day?

In St. John’s Gospel - Resurrection, Ascension and the Spirit at Pentecost - is seen and experienced as one reality. “I will be with you always” was the promise of Jesus to his disciples. His challenge is to make Him present and to continue His mission of healing and reconnecting all of creation.

The well-known words of Teresa of Avila give us a sense of how we can make Jesus present to others as we live our lives. The challenge of Jesus is “to make the difference”. 

“Christ has no body now on earth but yours

No hands but yours, no feet but yours.

Yours are the eyes through which Christ’s compassion looks out on the world.

Yours are the feet with which He is to go about doing good.

And yours are the hands with which He is to bless us now”.

There’s a story of two Cloistered nuns in a Contemplative Order who looked out from their windows, at a solitary tree in the grounds.
One observed the leaves waving in the breeze, the other listened to the chirping of the birds in branches. Two diverse observations from two individuals.

That analogy is symptomatic of what we perceive because we are influenced by what we want to see and hear. We can turn a “blind eye” or “deaf ear” to some of the realities of our circumstances. We unknowingly live in the shadows of much happenings of modern day life and consequently, can be reluctant to see things as they really are.
Today’s media subjects us to a deluge of information, so much so we turn off from what is non relevant to us.
Take a leaf from today’s 1st Reading - Peter admits that the “truth that he has come to realise” is for all people of every race and nationality. Obviously the result of his reflection and listening to the words of Christ. Peter now has opened his eyes to the fact that the word of God is spoken to all who are willing to listen to the voice of God’s Spirit.
The power of God’s Spirit is an enabling influence for all of us, who are open to receive it. It opens avenues to allow God’s gifts to open our eyes of faith and leads us to undreamed of possibilities.

An Evening of Musical Extravaganza; with Forever Young Singers, Cantare Chamber choir, Chill; 12+1; Tony Murray and Karoline O’Sullivan. Venue: Chapel of Our Lady, Roslevan on Fri May 11th at 8pm; Admission to this fantastic night of entertainment will be FREE but there will be a collection following the concert. All proceeds will go to the provision of a school library for the pupils in San Felipe Neri School, Monte Sinai, Ecuador.

There are numerous Old Testament passages which refer to Israel as a vine: Ps 80:8-16, Isa 5:1-7, Jer 2:21, Ezek 15:1-8 and Hos. 10:1. The vine became symbolic of Israel, and even appeared on some coins issued by the Maccabees. Jesus’ description of himself as the “true Vine” in John 15:1 ff. is to be seen against this background, but it differs significantly from the Old Testament imagery. The Old Testament passages which use this symbol appear to regard Israel as faithless to Yahweh and/or the object of severe punishment. However, it appears to be original with Jesus.

THE IMAGERY OF THE VINE underscores the importance of fruitfulness in the Christian life and the truth that this results not from human achievement, but from one’s position in Christ. Jesus is not just giving some comforting advice, but portraying to the disciples the difficult path of faithful service. To some degree the figure is similar to the Head-Body metaphor used by Paul, with Christ as Head and believers as members of the Body. Both metaphors bring out the vital and necessary connection which exists between Christ and believers.

This connection is most clearly affected in the Church, in which is found the dynamism of unification in which people draw together by moving towards God. In this radical movement the life of faith is played out.
Faith cannot be static nor something we live in isolation. Notice Jesus’reference to the Father.

 JESUS IS NEVER PORTRAYED AS INDEPENDENT FROM HIS FATHER in the Gospel of John; they are always co-operating in every activity. In this same way, we are called to communal participation, in our own uniqueness and individuality, as members of the Body of Christ, to build up the kingdom of God.
Herein is held our challenge, a challenge of building a Kingdom which does not belong to us, a challenge of recognising diversity of humanity, role and vocation whilst maintaining a sense of communio. However, it is a reciprocal challenge. “If you remain in me, then I also will remain in you.” Christ will be with us, shepherd of his flock. Let us not forget him, but remain in him.
