A Columbarium for the Cathedral

Published on February 19, 2021

Plans are underway for the inclusion of a Columbarium in the Cathedral. A columbarium is a chapel within the Cathedral used for the interment of the cremated remains of our faithful departed.
Following consultation and adoption by the Ennis Parish Pastoral Council and the Parish Finance Committee, permission to proceed was granted by the Killaloe Diocesan Trust. Planning permission for the project was granted by Clare County Council and a company has been engaged to carry out the necessary work.
The Columbarium will be located in the former Mortuary Chapel of the Cathedral. The Columbarium will provide a sacred resting place for 240 souls and offer families the consolation to pray there in a comfortable, prayerful, sacred environment.
Preliminary work has been carried out but progress is delayed due to Covid-19 restrictions.
More information will be provided over the coming weeks. If anyone would like any further information you are welcome to contact the parish office.
